We use 14-18 carat gold. 14 carat is kind of a break-even-point in gold. Gold is a soft precious metal and to make it durable so you can wear it on a daily basis for many years we need to add a stronger metal that strengthens the gold.
But what is what?
Solid Gold
We use partly recycled 14-18 carat gold (20-80%).
Vermeil Gold
A layer of gold on Sterling Silver. (Must be 2,5-3 micron minimum) Our gold pieces in our Archive are made with this technic, but we are phasing out this segment.
Gold plated
A very thin (between 0,2-0,4 micron) layer of gold on any material, brass, steel, copper or nickel. We do not use this technique.
Use:
Jewellery are and should be used a lot so take good care of the jewellery and make sure you store it in the right way. Our jewellery is handmade so wear the piece with care. If the jewellery is a vermeil piece, the goldlayer can be worn out.
Recycling:
Our jewellery are 100% recyclable.
Production
We produce all our jewellery in Italy. Italy is famous for its goldsmiths and the quality of the work. And we are aiming for that you will enjoy our objects for a long time (Read our Care-guide). In Italy we can have a controlled work environment where we know that the craftmen and -women who help us with making our jewellery are treated well and get a good salary. Our objects are made in family-owned workshops. Collaborating with small family-owned workshops gives us a better way to influence how they are trading the raw material. This gives us shorter lead-times which makes it possible for us to order smaller amounts to not over-produce. When selecting our suppliers we have searched for workshops where there is an equal distribution of men and women throughout the organization. We also want to support small scale workshops where the jewellery is crafted with attention to the details.
Recycled gold & silver:
(between 20-90%) blended with raw material. We can't claim that we only use recycled material due to the complexity of the recycling business in gold and silver. But we are honest about it. The reason we have choosed to collaborate with small family owned businesses is that we as a small actor can have a bigger impact in how they are trading the gold and silver. Recycled gold and silver comes from existing jewellery that are damaged, electronic components and industrial used metals. Our partner who make our gold and silver jewellery are a certified member of Responsible Jewelry Council. We are striving to use higher and higher percentage of recycled precious metals by pushing our collaborators to see the higher value in a active choice of refineries that uses a high procent of recycled material.
Shipping & Packaging
It is in the small choices everyday we can make a positive change together. Our jewellery are made in Italy meaning that we can control the shipping to make sustainable choices. We never select express shipping, since this increases the emissions. We use environmental friendly emballage, cardboard or paper of recycled material to pack your order. You can make a change. When you choose fast shipping, the emissions increase since it then might be transported by air. We know - We also want it NOW. But waiting an extra day or two make less impact on the environment. Remember to recycle the cardboard that your order is shipped in or even better - reuse it. Our packaging: Jewellery boxes: Your jewellery will be delivered in our Lugot jewellery box. Our boxes are made in recycable paper.
